Top 5 Beaches in St. John, US Virgin Islands

St. John is known for its National Park and natural beauty. The beaches in St. John are some of the best in the world. Here are the Top 5 beaches in St. John.

1) Trunk Bay

This is one of the most photographed, iconic beaches EVER. It will take your breathe away. Trunk Bay has powdery white sandy and unreal turquoise water. There is a famous underwater snorkeling trail that will entertain you with coral and fish species. Trunk Bay has amenities, such as restrooms, showers, rental chair and snorkel gear rental as well as a Snack shack with beverages (including alcoholic) and sandwiches. Trunk Bay is the only National Park beach with an entry fee, which is $5.00. Well worth it!

👉 If you picture “perfect Caribbean beach,” this is it.

2) Maho Bay

Maho Bay is known for its calm waters and the very good chance of seeing a sea turtle while snorkeling. The access to the water is easy, and shallow, so great for kids and those wanting to just swim, float and enjoy the cool Maho vibe. There are restrooms and a food truck and bar across the street, where you can also rent snorkel gear and beach loungers.

👉 This is the “relax all day, float, and snorkel with turtles” spot.

3) Cinnamon Bay

Cinnamon Bay is a special place, it has lots of space for beachgoers and there is an activity booth to rental paddleboards, kayaks and snorkel gear. Cinnamon is one of the longest beaches on the island and there is always room, even when it is busy. There is also a small food trunk for refreshments. Cinnamon Bay is also home to the Cinnamon Bay Campgrounds, an iconic accommodation on St. John that puts you back into nature and allows you to escape from the everyday grind and stay in the National Park.

👉 Perfect if you want a mix of beach + things to do.

4) Hawksnest Beach

Easily one of the most accessible beaches, parking from the beach, is just a few steps away. Honeymoon is the first beach you come to in the park when driving along the North Shore Road. It is white powder with blues as far as you can see. There are changing rooms, restrooms and plenty of picnic tables, so it is a good idea to pack a lunch and stay for the day.

👉 Great “quick beach day” without the crowds or hassle.

5) Honeymoon Beach

This beach feels more “hidden” and remote. You cannot drive to this beach, so it is less crowded. You can hike, kayak, come by boat, or take the shuttle from Caneel Bay for a small fee. Honeymoon has a small snack shack and restrooms. Think seclusion and “romantic” vibes.

👉 Ideal if you want that “private island” feel without going full off-grid.
